Guts
This project was prepared for an exhibition in London at Excelsior studios in October 2022.
In a broad artistic context, the gut series can be attributed to the tradition of vanitas (Latin vanity), the depiction of symbolic reminders of death, such as skulls or rotting flowers, which are designed to guide Christian viewers on the path of a righteous life and warn them against pernicious vanity. Despite the use of the seemingly utilitarian purpose of candlesticks and the decorative color scheme of the “guts”, it has a strong emotional impact.
In the form I visualize the fear that is felt in the guts, just like everyone’s guts are the same.
The construction refers to the form of a “panicadilo” - a chandelier with candles in an Orthodox church.
An essay on the hope we share with Christians on the other side of the war.
